Our Purpose:

The purpose of TPHCDEC is to educate and empower individuals to improve their quality of life. Our mission is to aid, educate, and mentor disadvantaged individuals and families and point them towards a life of self-sufficiency.

GED Preparation

The TPHCDEC GED program is designed to help adults lay their educational foundation by studying to pass the GED exam.  Classes are free and are held in the Kingdom Plaza Training Center.

The GED program runs for three sessions each year.  Students have multiple chances to enroll throughout the year (if space is available).  Our class sizes are small so that students can receive the assistance they need.  Two of our instructors are GED recipients who have also completed college.

Adult Literacy

Adult Literacy classes are provided as a part of the GED preparation program.  Students are tested before they begin taking GED classes.  This helps us to see where students are academically so they can begin studying at the right level.

The students will be given the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) Locator and Survey.  Once their scores are calculated we can place the student either in GED preparation or literacy tutoring.  In some cases students may take literacy and GED prep classes at the same time.  Students do not have to be enrolled in GED classes to receive literacy tutoring.

Vocational Rehabilitation

TPHCDEC is a vendor for the Florida Department of Education’s Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) program.  Clients with disabilities are referred to us for pre-employment training.  Participants must be clients of VR first and then may request to receive training and support from TPHCDEC.

Pre-employment topics include developing resumes, conducting job searches, online job searches, interview skills, and other work related tasks.

For more information on becoming a VR client please contact VR at 904-348-2770.
